Charlie Davies status : emergency surgery

Labels:

New details are in about Charlie Davies following Tuesday’s car accident. The car accident that killed Ashley J. Roberta and put Charlie Davies of Team USA Soccer into five hour emergency surgery did not have Davies nor Roberta at the wheel, says reports.

According to police spokesman David Schlosser, who was speaking to the newspaper, “The car was pretty much split in half.”

The list of injuries suffered by Davies is truly appalling. The 23-year-old suffered a broken tibia and femur in his right leg, as well as perforation of the bladder, a broken left elbow and multiple facial fractures, according to France Football.

In total, he underwent surgery that lasted around five hours, though he will need further operations to completely correct the damage done.

As reported last weekend USA Soccer has already qualified for FIFA’s 2010 World cup in South Africa. Their next match is versus Costa Rica Tuesday. US Coach Bob Bradley has issued the following statement to press:

“As a team, we were saddened to learn this news. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to Charlie and Charlie’s family as well as the people in the car and the families of the others involved.”

"You are my bear and you are my hippo," she said. "I loved working with you."
Viewer votes are combined with judges' scores to determine which contestant is eliminated each week.

Ten celebrity contestants remain on the ABC dance-off. Each is set to perform two dances on Monday.

Harry Connick skit poking fun : Australia last week

Labels:

Harry Connick Jr. says he did the right thing by expressing his outrage at a blackface skit poking fun at the Jackson Five in Australia last week.

"I'm pleased with the way I handled the situation," the 42-year-old American singer and actor told reporters Wednesday in Hong Kong, where he was promoting his new album "Your Songs."

Connick said he canceled an autograph session and interviews in Sydney after the show to let the controversy die down.

"It was very hot. It was a subject that was very, very controversial. So we just decided to take a couple of days off. I wasn't worried about physical harm," he said.

Blackface once was a part of minstrel shows in the United States, with whites playing stock black characters usually demeaning stereotypes after rubbing coal, grease or shoe polish on their faces.

Hamas: Gaza attack contradicts-Palestinian interest

Labels:

The Palestinian security organizations in the Gaza Strip, and especially the Hamas government's internal security force, have launched an investigation into Monday morning's attempted terror attack near the Karni crossing.

The Israeli attack on Gaza is a tragedy for Palestinians and a high-risk enterprise for Israel, but the ongoing conflict also has worrisome implications for Egypt, which shares an unhappy border with the embattled territory.

Israel’s understandable desire to stop rocket attacks from Gaza and prevent Hamas from rearming has stirred talk in some quarters of a new Egyptian occupation of Gaza, a prospect which would ignite Egyptian domestic opposition like none other.

According to an initial Israeli army probe, Palestinian gunmen approached the fence with trucks and horses loaded with explosive devices. Four Palestinians were killed in an exchange of fire with Israel Defense Forces soldiers, and the rest escaped. There were no injuries among the troops. The IDF believes the gunmen had planned to kidnap a soldier.

The sources stressed that Hamas supports the organizations and understands that they are entitled to respond when the Israeli side violates the truce, but when there is no immediate reason the organizations must "honor the interest of the Strip's residents, who need to see the blockade lifted, the crossings opened and the lull maintained."
